Rock 106's Toyz For The Kidzes

Thanks for making the 7th Annual Rock 106's Toyz For The Kidzes A Huge Success

A Special Thank You From The Rock 106 Program Director

Guys… you know that feeling you get when you're walking through a toy store and you see a Slinky, Playdough, Legos, G.I. Joe figures, Transformers, skateboards, or Lincoln Logs?

Gals… you probably have the same feeling when you see Cabbage Patch Dolls, Barbies, Easy Bake Ovens, or whatever else you used to play with when you were a kid.

That feeling you get like your mind and body remember what it was like to play with those toys and it's pure excitement.  You think "Awe man!  I used to looove playing with that!"

Remember that feeling you got on Christmas morning when you'd creep downstairs and under the tree was a pile of presents just for you!  It didn't matter if you got what you asked Santa for because you loved what you got!

Those feelings are what I want to give to every boy and girl that doesn't know what that feels like.  The feeling that at least for one day out of the year it's all about them.  Those are the feelings they deserve to have.  It's not their fault that they are in the circumstances they are in.  A lot of times it's not even their parent's fault.  Sometimes… life just happens and it's not always good.

Creating those feelings is what we are all about.  We love it.  We know how good it feels to make that happen for those kids and we're stingy.  We want more and more of that feeling because there's nothing like it.

And, you know what?  We want you, our listener to have that feeling too.  Those of you that donated this year… you know what I'm talking about.  We can't do any of it without you and your donations.  We can't do any of it without our volunteers.  We can't do any of it without the legitimate organizations that we distribute the money and toys through.

I worked for months to organize this event.  I wanted to make it bigger and better than it has ever been.  I wanted to include something for everyone.  That was all I had to give this year so I wanted to do my very best to not let anyone down that was involved in this toy drive.  My air staff gave of their time, their own money out of their pockets, and of their hearts.  They worked tirelessly before, during, and after the event to make sure everything ran smoothly.  That is what they gave this year.  The entire family of people that work here at Rock 106 and Opus Broadcasting did whatever they could do to give that feeling to the children so that when those children grew up they could think to themselves "Awe man!  I used to love playing with that!"

They could know that at least one day out of the year, it was all about them.

Together we gathered over $7,000.00, over 4,000 toys, and over 180 bikes in 24 hours.  Together we made a miracles happen this Christmas.  Together we proved that people do care and that there is still love in the world.

There are a lot of people to thank this year.  I'm going to attempt to do so.  We've compiled a huge list of volunteers and we tried very hard not to leave anyone off the list.  If we did, please accept my sincere apology and know that we did not mean to:

This year we were able to help an organization that we've never been affiliated with before.  The U.S. Army Families of Deployed Soldiers.  The men and women who defend our freedom, go where they're told and do what they're told, and fight for our right to even be able to hold an event like this.  A lot of their kids will have something for Christmas because of all of us.

That feeling.  the one you have right now.  It feels great doesn't it?  Come back for another helping of that feeling in December of 2009.  Until then, it was an honor to do what we did with the people that we did it with.
